App's purpose and Target audience

App's purpose

After the research of the Audience (see bellow) I defined the App's purpose and goal, as well as define the target audience

Review 23/10/13

Purpose

To take the user back at the time and places where Jack The Ripper commit his murders, by transforming the iPad into a window to the pass through Augmented reality.

Goals

  • Establish the POI relevant with JTH murders.
  • Show the user POI using a Map and directions (a pre established tour).
  • Allow the user to personalise which POI they would visit.
  • Use Animations/Audio and Augmented Reality in order to show how POI looks like 1888.

Audience

I check this website: http://www.usability.gov/how-to-and-tools/methods/user-research/index.html. They present information about UX best practices and guidelines.  They present user-cetered design process. It got information about planning and testing, it is a comprehensive one. I would base my project on this. It is mostly focus on Websites but I would take what it might work for App.

I talked with a couple of people that are fan of Jack the Ripper story (I'm fan myself). I asked what they would like to see in an app.  Both of them agree that they would like to see real facts about the story focus on the victims, documents or evidences found at the time. They said that mainly everything is  about Jack the Ripper, and I feel is because people wants to discover him, they say that they would like to know what the victim did that they, or who were they?

I think who might use this App a London Visitor looking for details about the case.

The scene many experts claim to be the first Jack the Ripper murder, this cobbled stone lane way remains a great starting point in our tour as you can instantly feel the sense of a bygone era, of gaslit streets, dark corners and quiet footsteps in the night, as the ripper lay in wait for his victims. Learn how the death of this one woman began the Autumn of terror.
Frying pan pub (the death of Mary Ann Nichols).

These letters have been subject to debate ever since... are they hoaxes?... or are they the words of the killer himself?

Ten bells and Christ church.
On the corner of Commercial Street and Fournier Street in Spitalfields stands perhaps the most famous pub in Ripper history. The Ten Bells. It is here that some if not all the victims frequented and perhaps even the Ripper himself... Across from the front door, a sight which would have greeted everyone associated with the ripper case... Christ church. This famous landmark made famous by the movie "From Hell" stands in the very heart of the Ripper district.

===================

After all this information I can picture my user as middle class person or part of a family in that sector. I looked at this article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2293690/Britons-earn-25-000-drive-Ford-middle-class.html

Main findings:
"The study also revealed that the average ‘middle class’ Briton holds down a full-time job earning a salary of £24,744.
And combined with their partner’s wages they have a household income of around £43,592.
‘Middle class’ Britons also live in a three-bedroom detached home worth an average of £278,714.
Researchers also found that those who consider themselves to be middle class own one car per household - most likely to be a Ford, Vauxhall or Toyota.
They also holiday in Europe on self-catering package holidays and have an average of £25,963 in savings or tied up in investments.
And in their spare time, the middle classes enjoy reading, going for walks in the countryside, shopping, keeping up-to-date with current affairs and going to the cinema."
