Jack The Ripper - Research

Jack The Ripper - Research

Jack the Ripper has been in the mind of people worldwide.  The fascinating story behind, conspiracies and gruesome of the murders, it just caught the attention of a fan base relate with crime solving.

On August 31st 2013 marks the 125th anniversary of the first Jack the Ripper murder (http://www.thehistorypress.co.uk/jack-the-ripper-whitechapel), so it would be interesting build an interactive App that take the user around the area and showing the different spots and time where the event develop on the night of the main murder, also it would provide extra information about the investigation and link to source of information and latest news.

I found this website http://www.casebook.org/ where their mission statement is: "It is our hope that the information provided by Casebook: Jack the Ripper will help scatter this cloud and, perhaps, finally allow a glimpse into that most elusive aspect of the mystery: the truth." (Stephen P. Ryder, Editor)

The site include Victims, Suspects. Witnesses, Ripper Letters, Police Officials, Official Documents, Press Reports, Victorian London, Message Boards, Ripper media, Authors, Dissertations, Timelines, Games & Diversions, Photo archive, Ripper wiki, Casebook Examiner and Ripper Podcast. This site is rich on information about the case.

https://twitter.com/WChapelRealTime/media This is a interesting project, they are tweeting the story as it happened 125 years ago. I can use those tweet to put in my augmented reality. It could be help if we can see this recount of witnesess inthe actual place to have a better idea how theevent develop during those nights.

I would need to find victorian footage and film on Location, also I would like to know if google street view can be use as a tool for the digital visualisation.

First I came across with this website: http://archive.org/index.php, it can be found some footage, audio and pictures

To start to layout my story I'll need to select a couple of suspects, for the user to follow by the street.  Back at casebook web site, I read the suspects files and I feel that I've got enough material to relate then at the time of the murder... maybe I can do kind of fiction stories behind them, or it might be more interesting base the story on the witnesses statements.

I start to feeling that doing the tour base on the record left by the witness would have a better impact, as it would be based on real accounting of the murder.

I would carry on checking the data that I account and make up the path that the victim follow, I'll choose the one we must details.

I would need to print a map big to marks key points (victims/witnesses/suspects) to build the story.

Tv series/Documentaries
